This is what happens when a black hockey player scores a winning goal. White people go apeshyt.

REBLOG - someone should let these folks know how they look. :)

Unlike my best friend who is a fashion blogger and is always fashionable - I tend to go with what’s in the laundry basket. I am totally okay with this. I even have a name for it. I like to call it Laundry Chic. So the rule is it’s fair game to wear so as long as it doesn’t need to be ironed or if wrinkled the wrinkles can be knocked out by the steam dryer.

So generally I just dig through my clean laundry until I find something that meets these requirements. I actually have it down to a science and I am proud to say I’ve only ironed twice in 7 months and it takes me no more than 3 minutes to piece together an outfit. I suppose some of the dry clean items count as cheating but I won’t count them here.

I like clothes that are nice to look at but also easy to prepare. I have better things to do other than standing over an iron for 20-30 minutes a day, like say writing a blog post about not ironing.

One day I might actually start another blog dedicated to my daily treasure hunt in the laundry basket. Or I might just hang up my damn clothes.

A Little Experiment

Somehow I have found myself entangled in yet another move. I haven’t a clue how I got here <Insert Sarcastic Remark From Spouse Here>.

Well it seems that after many moves in 5 years ( I won’t divulge how many - it’s a lot) my living room furniture is about to bite the dust. It has been faithful furniture - It held me while I slept, warmed me when I was sick with the flu, served as the meeting center, laptop storage unit, clothes rack, dog den, and has been the glue by which my life has been held together for the past five years (Okay that’s not exactly true but point made I hope).

Okay so where was I? Yeah my little experiement. Maybe it is a bit of a cockamamie idea (I just used cockamamie in a sentence WORD! or BAWSE!!!! as my son would say) - wait what was I talking about again? I got sidetracked on words and bawses. Oh yes, my little experiment.

So my furniture needs to be replaced and my mother thinks I need to purchase some ‘decorative items’ (in Sandcastlekicker-ese that’s junk i’ll be giving to goodwill next year) to make our new home more homey.

So I got this idea while surfing Craigslist. I am going to attempt to source as much of my purchases from either Craigslist sales or thrift shops and post the results here. Not that anyone cares or will read this but it seems like a fun challenge. I have to credit my best friend for helping to cure my repulsion of used goods.

Anyway, I’ll post the progress here as I make it.

Why So Mad

I know a few people who always seem to be angry. I really don’t get why. They’ve been mad so long that I believe that they don’t really know what they are mad about. These angry folks seem to be angry that no else is angry about what they are angry about. These folks are not content unless they are angry. They spend a lot of time talking about how inadequate the next person is but cannot expand on one meaningful adequate characteristic that they have.

People choose to live angry. People choose to live bitter. Really neither one is living, just existing in a sad condition. If given a choice between living free and living angry, I cannot imagine why a person would choose to live in a perpetual state of anger. I don’t understand and perhaps I am not capable of understanding. Perhaps I don’t really want to understand.

Village Ghetto Land - Stevie Wonder

Would you like to go with me

Down my dead end street

Would you like to come with me

To Village Ghetto Land

See the people lock their doors

While robbers laugh and steal

Beggars watch and eat their meals-from garbage cans

Broken glass is everywhere

It’s a bloody scene

Killing plagues the citizens

Unless they own police

Children play with rusted cars

Sores cover their hands

Politicians laugh and drink-drunk to all demands

Families buying dog food now

Starvation roams the streets

Babies die before they’re born

Infected by the grief

Now some folks say that we should be

Glad for what we have

Tell me would you be happy in Village Ghetto Land

Village Ghetto Land

——————————————————————————————————-

You really have to hear the arrangement of this song to truly appreciate it. The non vocal music is of the rich and opulent classical style while the vocals speak of what life is like for poor folks. Irony. It’s both beautiful and tragic. Though this song was written nearly 40 years ago the message is applicable today.
